Rosemeade Pottery of Wahpeton, North Dakota, worked from 1940 to 1961. The pottery was operated by Laura A. Taylor and her husband, R.I. Hughes. The company was also known as the Wahpeton Pottery Company. Art pottery and commercial wares were made. Taylor created realistic pottery animals, including birds and fish, which were hand-painted with vivid colors.
Of the various items made in the image of a ring-neck pheasant, this piece, a hors d'oeuvres pick holder is rather rare. Originally it would have been accompanied with divided plate to hold the hors d'oeuvres with the pheasant sitting in the center. Great detailing with a rich, realistic colors in high glaze. The Pheasant measure 5" in length, 4 3/4" in height and 2 1/2" across. One has the original green and gold foil label marked "Rosemeade No. Dak." There are no cracks, chips or repairs; near mint.
