The Royal Copenhagen Manufactory was established in Denmark in about 1775 by Frantz Henrich Muller. When bankruptcy threatened in 1779, the Crown took charge. Fine dinnerware and objects of art have been produced since that time.
This lovely figure is named "Two Doves" and features two loving snow white doves perched on a floral and leaf covered branch. The flowers, leaves and branch are reticulated for added depth and realism. The figurine was first molded in 1902 by sculpture Theodor Madsen (1880-1965) who worked for the Royal Copenhagen Company from 1896-1936; during this time he designed 61 animal figurines. The figure measures 5 1/4" in height, 4" in length and 3" in width. Stamped on the base with the company logo, three wavy lines, pattern #402 and the decorators initials. In the word Copenhagen there is a bar below the G indicating a manufacturing date of 1969-1973. There are no cracks, chips or repairs. A wonderful Danish figure.
