Hand painted china is so beautiful if done in a factory decorating department, professional studio or a small home-studio environment. During the late 1800's and early 1900's china decorating became a favorite hobby of many American ladies who would purchase china blanks from various companies and create their own works of art.
This unique hand painted Art Deco cabinet plate, circa 1920, was executed in a home studio. The plate is adorned with a romantic silhouette of a Colonial couple in black and gold against a soft muted pastel blue background. The border is decorated with a geometric Art Deco design in medium blue and gold outlined with black. The plate measures 7 1/2" across and the white-ware porcelain blank carries the back-stamp "Thomas Sevres Bavaria", used by Fritz Thomas Company from 1908-1939. There are no cracks, chips or repairs. Unfortunately the piece is not signed by the artist. Near mint condition.
