The White's Art Company, Chicago, Illinois, largely a family business of three sisters, Ida, Sarah and Ellen, was started in 1914 and continued until 1923. Identified as "china decorators", the business was largely on the student side and therefore few examples bearing the red triangle mark have survived. They were in competition with the best decorators of the era, Pickard, Stouffer, Brauer, etc. and had several of Pickard's artists work for them for a time.
This gorgeous hand painted footed bowl, one of the nicest I have seen, is decorated on the interior and exterior with festive red poinsettia blossoms nestled among pastel green, yellow and aqua colored leaves, trailing narrow stems and unopened buds, all outlined and veined with gold against a pale creamy background. The wide, gently sculptured rim and three curled feet are also gold encrusted. The bowl measures 8 1/4" across, 4 1/2" in height and is stamped with the red triangle mark "White's Art Co. - Chicago - Hand Painted"; the manufactures stamp has been painted over. There are no cracks, chips or repairs.
