Hand Painted china is beautiful no matter if executed in a factory decorating department, professional decorating studio or by skilled individuals in a home studio environment. During the late 1800's and early 1900's this became a favorite hobby of many American ladies who would purchase china blanks from various companies and create their own works of art.
This beautiful hand painted cabinet plate, circa 1900, was decorated in a home-studio environment but is as exquisitely executed as any from a factory or professional decorating studio. The plate is decorated with an American Finch, nicknamed wild canary, perched on a large thistle plant while enjoying a lunch of thistle seeds. The thistle is laden with more flowers in various stages of development. The background is a serene rural field, bordered by trees and a vivid blue sky. The border is a delicate gold band. Faintly signed by the artist on the underside, "M L Ever".
The cabinet plate measures 9" across and is stamped in green "JP over L over France". The JPL mark designates the Jean Pouyat Limoges Company and was used from 1894-1931. There are no cracks, chips or repairs. A lovely piece to compliment any collection or decor.
