The Pouyat family was one of the oldest French families connected with the Limoges porcelain industry. Jean Pouyat's grandfather has a faience factory in the 1760's.
This beautiful hand painted cabinet plate was expertly executed in a home-studio environment, circa 1910. The motif is clusters and stems of wild violet blossoms nestled among shaded pastel green foliage. The background is a mottled blend of shaded pastel shades of tan, yellow, gray and blue with a slightly scalloped, embossed design, gold encrusted rim. The plate carries the initials of the artist "J.M.C." on the front.
The plate measures 8 3/8" across and carries mark #5 in green "J P over L over France" circa 1894-1931, designating the Jean Pouyat Limoges Company. There are no cracks, chips or repairs. Gorgeous near mint. I have two additional matching JPL plates by this artist in my store.
