Hand painted china is so beautiful and decorative no matter if executed in a factory decorating department, professional studio or home-studio environment. The quality and subject matter of the finished product is what really matters.
This lovely Art Nouveau round covered powder/trinket box, circa 1910, was hand painted in a home-studio environment. The lid is adorned with a portrait of a gorgeous young lady in lavender gown with purple floral corsage. The box shades from very pale to pastel yellow background and is further decorated with encrusted gold scrolls and beads. The rims of the lid and base are also gold trimmed. The box measures 4 3/4" across and 2 5/8" in height; initialed by the artist "KGE" on the base and a large "E" on the interior of the lid and stamped in green "Limoges over France". There are no cracks or repairs; a minor porcelain flake on the interior rim of the lid (see photo) and a few gold beads are missing.
