The designation "Punch" is the series/pattern name of the china blank before it is decorated. The blanks are scalloped with embossed arches surrounding the outer border. These plates can be found in a variety of transfer designs. The Z.S. & Co., Bavaria was founded in 1880 by Johann Zeh & Johann Scherzer and existed until 1992.
This beautiful fruits transfer decal, circa 1910, is one of many designs created by the Z.S. & Co for use on their "Punch" blanks. The back-stamp may include punch plus the company mark, only the company mark or many are unmarked. The motif depicts an array of lush peaches and blackberries nestled among fall foliage against a shaded green background. The plate, measuring 9 1/2" across, is stamped "Punch - Z.S. & Co. - Bavaria", a stamp used from 1880-1918. There are no cracks, chips, nicks or repairs. A nice addition to your "Punch" or decorative plate collection.
