Hand painted china is beautiful and unique as it portrays the artists emotions and visions for the subject he or she is creating. This beautiful hand painted cabinet plate, circa 1880, was created in a small home studio or professional studio environment by a very talented individual with great attention to detail and subject naturalism. This is one of five plates from a set by the same artist depicting very imaginative whimsical Victorian children's scenes.
The center of the white ware blank portrays a young girl attired in party dress, bonnet and slippers riding her favorite steed (rocking horse) while fishing along a tranquil pond with large tree in the background. The wide border in aqua blue is surrounded by four delicate gold bands, the last being on the verge of the plate.
The Haviland plate measures 8 1/2" across and is stamped in underglaze green "H & Co. over two lines", mark 'D' used 1876-1886. This plate is not artist signed and is part of the series of five plates listed in my store. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; near mint. One of a kind fantastic piece.
