Martial Redon Limoges Hand Painted Vase w/Vining Hops Motif - image 1 of 11

Martial Redon and P.J. Gibus became partners in a Limoges porcelain factory circa 1861. Redon became the sole owner when Gibus retired in 1881. In 1886 Redon exhibited plates, cups, and vases with lavish decoration; the company also did underglaze patterns and pate-sur-pate.

Martial Redon's son Joseph became a partner shortly before his father retired in 1896. P. Jouhanneaud and his son joined with Joseph Redon in 1906, and the firm became La Porcelaine Limousine. P. Jouhanneaud's nephew, George Magne, became a partner in 1912 and took over the company in 1918. The factory closed in 1938.

This gorgeous Redon Limoges hand painted vase features an unusual and unique decorating motif of vines of nugget hops which gives home brews their authentic old world flavor. The shaded green leaves and hops are detailed with encrusted gold against a rich yellow background. the tear-drop shaped vase is further enhanced with brushed gold on the body and flared rim which turns to pastel pink on the interior. The white ware vase was probably decorated in a small in-home studio and is initialed "AW" by the talented artist.

The vase measures 9" in height, 2 5/8" across the top and 2 3/8" across the base. It is stamped in green M R over France, white ware mark #2, circa 1891-1896 and impressed "MR" and "702 over 2". There are no cracks,
chips or repairs; near mint.
