Bohemia, currently a part of the Czech Republic, became famous for its beautiful and colorful glass during the Renaissance. ... Bohemian glass-workers discovered potash combined with chalk created a clear colorless glass that was more stable than glass from Italy.

This is a gorgeous Czech Bohemian mid-century enameled glass 4-piece dresser/vanity set, circa 1940-1950. The set consists of a larger round jar with blown apothecary-type stopper, a pair of smaller round jars that match the larger and a round covered dish with knob finial. Each piece is decorated with delicate enameled spring blossoms shading from creamy to golden yellow with red centers nestled on gold gilt branches and tiny green foliage. On each piece their are also two lovely red and black birds in graceful flight. The clear glass is adorned with gold gilt bands detailed with black trim. The larger jar measures 6 1/4" in height and 4" across; the pair of smaller jars measure 4 3/4" in height and 3" across; the covered dish measures 3 1/2" in height and 4 1/2" across. The covered dish and one smaller jar still retains the original oval gold foil label "Made In Czechoslovakia" There are no cracks, chips or repairs; near mint.
