In 1883 two brothers, Alfred and Frederick Johnson, purchased a defunct pottery known as Charles Street Works in Hanley, England. By the end of the 1890's Johnson Brothers may have been the largest earthenware manufacturer in the world.
The "Mongolia" Blue Transfer-ware China pattern, circa 1925 and forward, reflects the oriental influence of the period, with a central motif of peacocks in a beautiful oriental garden and borders of floral and geometric designs. The shape has a plain smooth rim. This salad plate measures 8" across. It is stamped "Mongolia - Crown Mark - Johnson Bros. - England"; this back-stamp was first used in 1913 and forward. A beautiful blue and white transfer-wear pattern. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; light overall crazing and utensil marks.
