This lovely round covered dresser/jewelry box, circa 1900, features on the cover a wonderful portrait of Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire (1757-1806). The Duchess was an English socialite, style icon and activist with a noble birth from the Spencer family. The portrait in high style attire with huge purple hat, ostrich feathers and gold ribbon, lighter purple gown, wide soft yellow shawl and holding a long stem pink rose blossom. Her beautiful face is framed by long, grayish curls all against a buttery yellow background. The base is a combination of buttery yellow and marmalade decorated with brown, white beaded swirls.
The box measures 6" across and 3" in height. Marked in green on the base "T&V - France" which designates the Tressemann & Vogt, mark used from 1892-1907. It is artist signed on the front "M Dignan". There are no cracks, chips or repairs; near mint condition. A lovely size and motif covered box for dresser or vanity.
