Shirley Temple Celebrity Dolls from the Ideal Novelty & Toy Company, circa 1934-1940, came in nine different sizes, ranging from 11" to 27" in height with outfits that were replicas from Shirley's movies, designed by Mollye Goldman from 1934-1936.
This darling Shirley Temple Celebrity Doll from this time period stands 13 1/2" in height, has an all composition jointed body, wigged ringlet curls in shades of blonde, hazel glass-like sleep eyes, real eyelashes, painted lower lashes, dimples in both cheeks, and open smiling mouth showing teeth. Embossed mark "Shirley Temple" on the back of the head and "Shirley Temple" in an arch and "13" on her upper back. Her outfit consists of a pretty yellow dress with yellow ribbons and wide, lace bordered collar decorated with delicate multi-colored flowers. Her white slip and panty combination is trimmed with lace. White socks and leather shoes for footwear. To complete the look, she wears a sun-bonnet with yellow ribbon. The outfit is not tagged; not sure if original. The composition body is in very good condition with some crazing and minor roughness on the fingers; the eyes open and close as they should; hair somewhat matted from years of storage. Very desirable size and condition for an early Shirley Temple. The original photo, pin and box is unavailable.
