Niloak pottery, founded in 1909, was produced in Benton, Arkansas. The pottery produced art pottery until 1946, with the most sought-after product line being their mission swirl. Niloak mission swirl was produced between 1909 and 1942 and was developed by Charles Hyten. Most Niloak mission swirl is marked with one of the Niloak art marks although some examples were marked only with paper labels.
This is a wonderful example of their craftsmanship and use of colors. The intense mission swirl mixture consists of shades of dark brown, clay, rust, white and blue. The vase stands an impressive 8 1/4" in height, 3 1/4" across the top and 4 1/8" across the slightly flared out base. Clearly stamped "Niloak". Unfortunately there is a stable hairline crack starting from a small nick at the rim and extending on a downward curve about 5" into the body of the vase (See last two photos for closer details). There are no other condition issues; priced according. A great piece.
