It was in central Europe that the artist Boleslaw Cybis, 1895-1957, founder of the Cybis Porcelain spent most of this youth. The Cybis Porcelain Company was founded in the early 1940's and has become world famous as America's oldest porcelain art studio for museum quality sculptures of world-class art.
This darling porcelain figurine is entitled "Funny Face" and features the bust of a young child in circus clown costume and make-up. Light blond wavy hair protrudes from underneath the white cap decorated with pastel blue turned-up front and two pom-poms. The high ruffled collar with accompanying bow is also pastel blue. The face is tastefully decorated with orange make-up on the nose and around the child's beautiful blue eyes, accenting the soft pink lips. The sculpture was first introduced in 1976. It measures 9 1/4" in height, including the wooden base, which measures 3 1/4" square and 1 1/4" in height. Signed near the base "Cybis", and incised "Cybis @ 1976". There are no cracks, chips or repairs. The original box is not available.
