Niels Erik From (1908-1986) first started work as a silversmith in 1931, and he registered his silversmithy in Nakskov, Denmark in 1944. His early work concentrated on floral and foliage motifs but from the 1950s onward his output was markedly different in style, following the new modernist trends of the time, with clean lines and more abstract shapes, and later included the use of gemstones. After From’s death in 1986, the workshop continued under the direction of his son-in-law, Hilmer Jensen but finally closed in 1990. From's work is very collectable, and he is regarded as one of the masters of Danish jewelry design.
