Marcasite is a genuine, natural gemstone derived from a natural mineral called 'pyrite'. Pyrite is found in many parts of the world, but only a small fraction of it is suitable for the cutting processes required to create marcasite jewelry. Marcasite, both an elegant and fashionable gemstone has been used for personal adornments as far back as in ancient times
This elegantly designed "Dome" pair of earrings, circa 1960, is sterling silver set with graduated sizes of marcasite gems and sterling beads. Across the dome is a ribbon of tiny marcasite gems bordered by tiny beads and on either side is a diamond quilted pattern created with tiny and larger beads which holds larger marcasite gems. The earrings measure 3/4" in diameter with firm clip-backs. The interior of each earring is stamped "925". Wonderful condition with no damages and original patina.
