Marcasite is a genuine, natural gemstone derived from a natural mineral called 'pyrite'. Pyrite is found in many parts of the world, but only a small fraction of it is suitable for the cutting processes required to create marcasite jewelry. Marcasite, both an elegant and fashionable gemstone has been used for personal adornments as far back as in ancient times
This elegantly designed "Flowing Ribbons" brooch, circa 1960, is sterling silver set with graduated sizes of marcasite gems and tiny sterling beads on flowing ribbons intertwined giving the illusion of the branches of a palm tree flowing in a gentle breeze. The brooch measures 2 1/2" in length, 1 1/2" in width and has a safety clasp closure. The back is stamped "A925", with no damages and original patina.
