The Kaiser Porcelain company was founded in 1872 by August Alboth in Coburg, Germany; although his descendants, Willi Alboth and Georg Kaiser, took over the company in 1928. Since then, the company has produced numerous porcelain items as well as a series of high-quality Rococo-style lace figurines, all of which feature unique and elaborate designs due to the fact that the items are shaped and decorated by hand.
During the 1970s the company produced a series of figurines based on the designs of Giuseppe Cappé and Karl Tutter, as well as tableware designs based on the work of K. Nossek. Some of the many popular and collectible Kaiser Porcelain items include ballerina figurines, pixie figurines, animal figurines (such as horses, eagles and ducks) and much more.
This fabulous white porcelain figurine, circa 1970, is entitled "Birds on a Branch". It was designed by Wolfgang Gawantka who was born in Dresden, Germany in 1930, studied at the Meissen School of Art and joined Kaiser in West Germany after his immigration from East Germany. The figurine portrays five baby Titmice perched on a long branch with several supporting branches below, one displaying foliage and fruit. The figurine measures 9" in length and 5 1/2" in height. At the end of one branch is a blue Crown & AK stamp. used from 1967-1970 and embossed "501". Also stamped in black "Ltd Ed 2000 Pc - No 1042 Ger" and embossed in the mold "Gawantka". There are no cracks, chips or repairs; near mint. Beautiful.
