A wonderful copy of "The Poetical Works of John Greenleaf Whittier". An outspoken Abolitionist, he is considered to be one of America's greatest poets. He was heavily influenced by the Scottish poet Robert Burns.
This book was published by Hurst & Company, New York, in the early 1900's. Hand painted soft leather cover is entitled "Whittier's Poems"and it features his "Voices of Freedom" series of poems contained in it's 565 pages. A hand written inscription inside reads "Miss Bertha Fleming - Christmas 1904". The book is in excellent vintage condition with no torn or missing pages, stiff binding, beautiful soft leather cover. The are several short tears in the cover at the base of the spine caused by years of being folded under while resting on a book shelf.
