Opalescent glass has been widely accepted since its inception in the 1880's. The major production covered 40 years (1880-1920) by famous American and European glass houses.

This beautiful canary opalescent, tri-crimp whimsy bowl was created by the Northwood Glass, circa 1900- 1903. It is the herringbone pattern with a cranberry frit rim. The bowl stands 3" in height and measures 7 1/2" across. There are no cracks, chips or repairs. A rather rare pattern and color combination.

This bowl was made during the time period after Harry Northwood had sold his first company and plant in Indiana, PA to the National Glass Company consortium in 1899 and started production at his second United States based concern, H. Northwood and Company in late 1902. He had to use H. Northwood because National owned the "Northwood Glass" name. The new plant was the former Hobbs Brockunier facility in Wheeling, WV.
