The Kenton Toy Company, Kenton, Ohio, was founded in 1890 as the Kenton Lock Manufacturing Company. it entered the toy business in 1893. The "Lightning Express" animated or mechanical cap pistol is circa 1895-1915. You would slide the train to the back of the barrel to cock it. Then you inserted a cap into the front sight. When you pulled the trigger the train would hurl forward and explode the cap with a loud BANG. This Railroad Train cap gun is pictured on the front cover of the book "Cap Guns" by James L. Dundas.
The C.I. cap pistol measures 4 3/4" in length; the locomotive is 1 3/4" in length. This cap pistol is completely original with no missing or replaced components. Working condition with strong spring and latch. Original finish with some minor rust and darkened patina. A great cap pistol for the serious collector.
