Vasa Murrhina is the name of a glassware made by the Vasa Murrhina Art Glass Company of Sandwich, Massachusetts, starting around the mid-1880's. The glassware was transparent and was embedded with small pieces of colored glass and/or metallic flakes. The mica flakes were coated with silver, gold, copper, or nickel. Some of the pieces were cased. The same type of glass was made in England. Collectors often confuse Vasa Murrhina glass with aventurine, spatter, or spangle glass. There is uncertainty about what actually was made by the Vasa Murrhina factory. Vasa Murrhina means "vessel of gems."

This lovely yellow-to-white, cased glass rose bowl, circa 1880-1900, was hand-blown in a rare egg-shape form with crimped or ruffled edge hand-formed by the glassblower. The soft yellow, white and silver mica creates a gorgeous combination. It has a nice polished pontil. The bowl measures 4" in height and 3 1/2" across. There are no cracks, chips or repairs.
