Satin Glass derives its name from the items' velvety matt finish which is achieved though the application of an acid bath. This procedure has been used by many companies since the late 1800's, both here and abroad, on many types of colored art glass items.
This lovely piece of Victorian art glass is circa 1880 - 1900. The color is a soft pastel blue shading to near white at the base of the item; the interior is white. The round form curves into eight gentle scallops around the top edge, while the body is enhanced by a delicate orange enamel garland and scroll design that surrounds the bowl. It stands 4" tall and 4 1/2" across. Hand blown with a nice pontil. There are no cracks, chips, nicks or repairs. Lovely.
