Satin Glass derives its name from the items' velvety matt finish which is achieved though the application of an acid bath. This procedure has been used by many companies since the late 1800's, both here and abroad, on many types of colored art glass items. This lovely piece of Victorian art glass, circa 1880 - 1900. The color is a soft yellow shading to pastel yellow at the base of the item; the interior is white. The round form curves into eight gentle scallops around the top edge, each of which are decorated with delicate floral and foliage and the body is covered by individual geometric designs formed by tiny enamel dots. It stands 4 1/2" tall and 5" across. Hand blown with a nice pontil. There are no cracks, chips, nicks or repairs. Lovely.
