Hand painted porcelain is so beautiful, no matter if executed in a professional studio, factory decorating department or in a small home studio environment. The artistry and attention to detail is what really matters to produce a piece of art. This fantastic pair of hand painted plates was executed by one of the top artist of his era. Samuel Sherratt ran a well-known china decorating studio in Washington, D.C. as a contemporary of Paul Putzki. Born in 1856, he came to American with his wife in 1879 from England, and died at the early age of 47 in 1903.

The motif of this handled serving plate consists of beautiful blue, yellow, Purple & white pansy blossoms and opening buds nestled among leafage in shades of green and gray against a mottled background of soft blue, gray & apricot with a delicate gold trimmed edge and handles. The plate measure 9 3/4" across the center, 10 5/8" across the handles and is stamped in green "Haviland China", circa 1894-1931 and signed in gold "Sherratt's" There are no cracks or repairs; a shallow 1/4" rim chip (see photo). Priced accordingly. Gorgeous plate by renown decorator.
