The J. H .Stouffer Studio, Chicago, was founded in 1905 and continued in business until 1952. Known as a premier china decorating establishment during the era of the other great Chicago decorating studios. Jacob H. Stouffer was the seventh of nine children, born in the village of Adeline in North Central, Illinois.
This beautiful sugar and creamer set is adorned with shaded light to dark blue and white forget-me-not blossoms, nestled among soft blue leaves. The style of decoration is unique to the Stouffer Studio for this type of floral motif with minimal floral decoration and the additional use of gold and blue bands and trim. The T & V Limoges blanks are spectacular with sculptured handles and finial covered with gold enamel. The sugar measures 6" from handle-to-handle, 4 1/2" in height and 2 1/4" across he base; the creamer measures 5" from handle-to-spout, 3 3/4" in height and 2" across the base. Both pieces are stamped in green "T&V - Limoges - France", for the Tressemann & Vogt Company, circa 1892-1907 and in red "Hand - Stouffer - Painted" for the Stouffer Studio, mark #4, circa 1906-1914. There are no cracks, chips or repairs. Rich colors, beautiful design and near mint condition.
