The Anri company, founded by Anton Riffeser in 1912 in Val Gardena, South Tyrol, Northern Italy, is world-renowned for its hand carved and hand painted figurines. Anton Riffeser named the company Anri using the first two letters of his first and last name.
This wonderful whimsical carving, circa 1950's, portrays a peasant gentleman carrying a pig under his left arm and holding a glass of wine in his right hand. One can only wonder if he has sold the pig and is on his way to deliver it to the new owner or is the piglet destined to be the main course for the family dinner. The carving stands 6" in height and is stamped on the bottom with the copyright symbol "by Anri Italy" and "Depose". It also has the original foil gold & green label "Anri Italy". There are no chips, cracks or repairs.
