Founded by Charles Lewis Tiffany and John B. Youngin Brooklyn, Connecticut in 1837 as a "stationery and fancy goods emporium", the store initially sold a wide variety of stationery items, and operated as "Tiffany, Young and Ellis" in Lower Manhattan. The name was shortened to Tiffany & Company in 1853 when Charles Tiffany took control and established the firm's emphasis on jewelry.
This fantastic vintage Tiffany & Company baby rattle is in the shape of a barbell and was produced in several sizes. The barbell is 4 1/4" in length and the individual bells are approximately 1 3/8" across. On one side of the bar it is monogrammed "A W C" and on the other it is faintly stamped "Sterling Tiffany & Co." It weighs 1.8 ounces. There are no damages; nice aged patina which can be polished if you wish.
