Osborne was the only Chicago china artist of any statue to use his first name for his studio, Anglicized from Asbjorn (Norwegian). His career started working for other decorators/wholesalers, until he opened his own studio in 1910. His most prolific years extended into the mid-1920's.
This outstanding Osborne studio cabinet plate features a cameo scenic transfer motif of a "Strolling Couple" in the center of the plate. Surrounding the center is an etched gold laurel band, AOG etched rose and daisy design with a interspersed band of light green and gold floral motif. The wide outer border is again decorated with an AOG etched design of water lilies and leaves. The plate measures 8 3/4" across. The back is stamped in green "Haviland France", a mark used from 1894-1931 and a circular stamp "Hand - Osborne - Painted", circa mid 1920's - mid 1930's. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; near mint and beautiful.
