There was something in the rich limestone soil deposits found in Minnesota’s Goodhue County that was more than just a medium for local farmers to make utilitarian pottery pieces. What started as a cottage industry in the 1860s grew into one of the leading potting manufacturers in the United States before closing its doors in 1967. Having been in business for a century, Red Wing Pottery produced a prolific and varied catalog of products—literally something for every type of collector of American-made ceramics.
This unique and scarce "Violin" wall pocket, shape number M1484, was first introduced in 1955. Of the stringed instrument wall pockets, only the banjo and two versions of the violin was produced. The wall pocket measures 13" in length, 6" in width and is marked "Red Wing - USA - M1484". It is yellow fleck in color. There are no cracks, chip or repairs.
