Alexander Korda was born in Hungary with the give name Sandor Kellner. In the 1940's he directed movies including the Jungle Book and Thief of Bagdad. Opulent pieces of jewelry said to be inspired by these movies were created by the Rice-Wiener jewelry manufacturer and carry the name Korda. Rice-Wiener also made jewelry for Barclay and McClelland Barclay. Many pieces of Korda jewelry have nothing to do with the movies, however all Korda pieces are not prevalent on the market and are prized by collectors.
This fabulous "Roaring Lion" figural brooch was inspired by the movie Jungle Book. Composed of heavy silver tone metal, perhaps silver plated, it is of high quality, bold and elaborate. Marked on the back "Alexander Korda", the brooch measures 3 5/8" in length, 1 5/8" in height and comes with a secure safety clasp closure. Wonderful vintage condition with no damages; nice original patina.
