Opalescent glass has been widely accepted since its inception in the 1880's. The major production covered 40 years (1880 - 1920) by famous American and European glass houses.
This attractive "Blossoms & Palms" pattern, circa 1905, is from the Northwood Company. The gently flared trefold bowl with crimped outer rim decorated with three blossom displays and three palm leaves against a stippled background. The body of the bowl is clear with the opalescence appearing in the crimped border. Goofus decoration is cold, un-fired paint on the exterior of an item. The bowl measures 8 1/2" across and 3" in height with no cracks, chips or repairs; paint in very good condition.
