Charles Field Haviland started a small decorating studio in 1859. In 1870 a porcelain manufacturing company was established. Upon his retirement in 1881 the company was taken over by Gerard, Dufraisseis and Morel. The various Haviland companies sold undecorated white-ware to outside decorating companies and smaller studios.

This gorgeous CFH/GDM Limoges hand painted square cabinet plate, (#1 of 4 plates), was executed in a professional studio or home-studio environment by a very skilled artist. The plate exhibits a cluster of white rose blossoms nestled among thorny, green leaf covered stems. The outer border is decorated with brushed gold.

The plate measures 7 1/2" across and is stamped in green "CFH underlined over GDM. This mark was used in 1882, combined mark of Charles Field Haviland and Gerald, Dufraisseis & Morel. The artist's initials "JWF" appear on the underside of the plate. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; near mint. Purchase the set of 4 plates for $300.
