Royal Winton Chintz "Pekin" Pattern Relish/Candy Dish - Black w/Gold Trim - image 1 of 8

"Chintz" is the generic for English china with an overall floral transfer design. This eye-catching china is reminiscent of chintz dress fabric of English gardens in full bloom.

Leonard Lumsden Grimwade, born in Ipswich in 1864, was the driving force behind Grimwades Royal Winton pottery. At the age of 16 he moved to Hanley in North Staffordshire to work as a decorator and modeler in the potteries, however by the age of 20 and with dynamic enthusiasm and energy he opened his own business. Under various ownerships over the years, the establishment still exists.

This is a lovely relish/candy dish w/cut handles is the 'Pekin' pattern. The design, as the name suggests, is an Oriental landscape of trees, bridges, buildings, flowers and foliage in vivid shades of light green, Chinese red, golden tan and bright yellow against a black background. The outer edge has delicate gold trim. The pattern was created in 1951 and the piece is stamped with the script back-stamp "Royal Winton - Grimwades - Made In England - Pekin". The dish measures 6 3/4" in length, 5 1/4" in width and 1 1/2" in height. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; near mint. Wonderful pattern.
