This beautiful cream pitcher is the "Capitol" pattern, produced by the Shenango China Company, New Castle, Pennsylvania, circa 1940's.
The black and gold motif consists of the Capitol Dome enclosed within four narrow gold circles with a broken ribbon marked "B & O" on one side of the dome and "R.R." on the other. A wide gold band, encased within two narrow gold stripes, encircles the top containing a delicate black scroll design. There are two additional gold stripes around the body of the pitcher and a wide stripe on the handle.
The pitcher measures 4 1/8" in height and 5" from handle-to-handle. The piece is stamped with the green "Native American" mark, "Shenango China - New Castle, PA" as well as "58", "30" & "O". The New Castle, PA mark was reportedly used between 1902 and 1948. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; near mint.
