This unique "Pirate" pattern was created by the Syracuse China Company, New York, for the Illinois Central Railroad for use aboard the famous named trains "City of New Orleans" and "Panama Limited", circa 1940's -1950's.
The white blank is decorated with a wide band depicting swaying palms, pirate warships on the high seas and swashbuckling pirates standing along the shore. Only the dinner plate was made with this motif and it was paired with the "Coral" pattern to complete the service. The plates never displayed the railroad mark. The plate measures 9 3/4" across and is stamped "MM -10 Syracuse China U.S.A." The date code MM indicates the year 1958 and the "10" indicates the month of October. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; minor glaze dulling from use. Great pictorial pattern.
