This is a wonderful plate and bowl in the popular and long-lived "Harrison Blue" pattern from the Union Pacific Railroad. The pattern was introduced in 1905 and was discontinued round 1950. The simple, yet timeless pattern, incorporates a scroll border in blue against a white blank.
These pieces, circa 1940's, are described as a 'variation' as the railroad shield is on the underside of the the items rather than on the top or side. The Scammell China Company produced this ware for the Union Pacific Railroad under two different names - Lamberton China and Trenton China, which was their medium grade ware produced at a latter date. The "Harrison Blue" pattern was used on the Challenger and Overland Limited named trains as well as the railroad lodges and restaurants in Utah parks.
The plate measures 7 1/8" across, stamped in blue with the UPRR Overland Shield logo and impressed "Scammell's Trenton China". There are no cracks, chips or repairs. The bowl measures 5 3/4" across, 1 1/8" in depth and is marked the same as the plate. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; some minor roughness along base rim (see photo).
