This fantastic child's size, black transfer-ware, handle-less cup and bowl saucer set, circa 1840, is English in origin. The bowl saucer's rare 'Mourning' motif features the image of several adults visiting a large gravestone memorial surrounded by trees, shrubs and other landscaping with a group of birds flying overhead. The handle-less cup shows two somewhat different images of the same motif featured on the bowl saucer. The size and subject of this set is a very rare find.
The cup measures 2" in height and 2 3/4" across the top; the saucer bowl, for cooling your tea, measures 4 3/4" across and 1 1/8" in depth. Unmarked as to the maker. There are no chips, cracks or repairs; near mint.
