Hand painted china is beautiful and unique as it portrays the artists emotions and visions for the subject he or she is creating. This beautiful hand painted cabinet plate was created in a small home studio environment by a very talented individual with great attention to detail and subject naturalism. It is part of a collection by a contemporary artist, circa 1960-1980, that is as good as the professional decorating studios of the early 1900's. The pieces are on unmarked porcelain blanks and are either signed "C Baver", "C B" or some are unsigned.
This beautiful plate depicts a clipper ship fighting turbulent waves on the open ocean. The mottled gray and rose tinted, white-capped waves surround and rock the tall clipper ship as a somewhat stormy, shaded pink, blue and white sky looms on the horizon. Overhead can be seen four large birds following the ships progress. The sculptured border of the plate is framed with a gray and black rope design trimmed with gold. The plate, which is drilled for hanging, measures 7 3/4" across with no cracks, chips or repairs. Initialed by the artist "C B" on the underside.
