Celebrating 25 years of Antiquing Bliss
Early 1900's Souvenir "Main Building Dixon College And Normal School Dixon ILL" Miniature Ewer - image 1 of 4

Souvenir items were very popular during the late 1800's and early 1900's to commemorate events, people and places. Many small towns and large cities across America had souvenir items made for specific events, famous residents, interesting places and grand architectural buildings for residents of the area and tourists to purchase, collect and enjoy. Most of these items were created in European factories for export to the American market.

I have six pieces that were made for Dixon, IL, a town in rural Northern, IL and county seat of Lee County. This wonderful white porcelain miniature ewer is decorated with gold highlights and features a cartouche picturing a transfer image of a school building and the inscription "Main Building Dixon College And Normal School Dixon ILL". The ewer measures 5" in height and is stamped on the base "Made in Germany for Kramer's 5 & 10 Store Dixon ILL". There are no cracks chips or repairs.
