Hand painted china is beautiful and unique as it portrays the artists emotions and visions for the subject he or she is creating. This beautiful hand painted cabinet plate, circa 1890, was created in a small home studio or professional studio environment by a very talented individual with great attention to detail and subject naturalism. This is one of six plates from a set by the same artist depicting scenic pieces of art.
The center of the plate portrays a bright summer day along a placid lake with rugged shoreline of rocks, fallen and standing pines with mountainous peaks in the background. Look closely and see two small fishing boats on the lake. The wide border of the octagonal shaped Haviland blank is divided into sections by four pastel tan triangular shapes outlined in gold as is the outer rim of the plate. Any yellowish color on the white porcelain border is a reflection from the gold and not a stain.
The Haviland plate measures 9" across and is stamped in green "H & Co. over L over France", mark 'H' used 1888-1896. This plate is not artist signed and is part of the series of six plates listed in my store. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; minor gold wear. One of a kind fantastic piece.
