The Trent Tile Company, Trenton, New Jersey, operating from 1882-1939, was an early prolific pottery that produced outstanding dust-pressed, high glaze tiles for fireplaces, stoves and architectural purposes. This wonderful majolica glazed circular portrait tile, circa 1882-1890's was made for a parlor or cook stove ornamentation. The relief portrait depicts a Victorian young lady. The pastel yellow glaze and intricate detailing brings this character to life. The tile measures 3 1/8" across and would have been mounted in a brass ring attached to the stove. It is marked on the back in raised letters "Trent". Good vintage condition with a large chip on the underside rim and normal crazing. Beautiful Victorian image.
