The Trent Tile Company, Trenton, New Jersey, operating from 1882-1939, was an early prolific pottery that produced outstanding dust-pressed, high glaze tiles for fireplaces, stoves and architectural purposes. This wonderful majolica glazed circular portrait tile, circa 1882-1890's was made for a parlor or cook stove ornamentation. The relief portrait depicts the world famous American, Buffalo Bill Cody. The rich butterscotch glaze and intricate detailing brings this greater-than-life character to life. The tile measures 3 1/8" across and would have been mounted in a brass ring attached to the stove. It is marked on the back in raised letters "Trent". Very good vintage condition with a shallow glaze chip on the brim of the hat and normal crazing. This is the only tile I have seen with this fantastic historical image.
