Hand painted china is beautiful and unique as it portrays the artists emotions and visions for the subject he or she is creating. This beautiful hand painted cabinet plate, circa 1890, was created in a small home studio or professional studio environment by a very talented individual with great attention to detail and subject naturalism. This is one of seven plates from a set by the same artist depicting unique pieces of art.
The center of the plate portrays the Medieval Swan Knight scene. A medieval German legend of the tale of a mysterious Knight in a boat pulled by a swan across the water to the woman he saves and marries is one of the great traditions of the middle ages. The wide border of the octagonal shaped Haviland blank is a soft pastel blue with gold edge.
The Haviland plate measures 9" across and is stamped in green "H & Co underlined over L", mark F used 1876-1889. This plate is not artist initialed and dated as most of the others, but is part of the series of seven plates listed in my store. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; minor gold wear. One of a kind fantastic piece.
