A beautiful acrylic scenic painting, entitled "Tower Rock", signed Lily Topol and dated '85. The painting is a scene from Apple River Canyon State Park in the northwest corner of Illinois. It captures a huge rock formation surrounded by tall leaf laden trees overlooking a shallow placid stream. The painting in on masonite board measuring 9 7/8" in width and 18" in length. On the back is the following inscription by the artist. "Tower Rock sketched on site (acrylics) Apple River Canyon State Park, Apple River, Il, JoDavies Cty. Founder's Trail, Black Hawk Boy Scout Camp, May 20, 1985. Dr, Vickery & Millie brought me to the site. - Lily Topol.
The artist, Lily Topol, was a well know sculptor and artist from the Freeport, Illinois, area. One of her many accomplishments is the life-size bronze sculpture "Lincoln and Douglas in Debate" which was completed in 1992 and is located in Debate Square, site of the 1858 debate in Freeport, Illinois, between senatorial candidates Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A Douglas. Lily passed away on January 30, 2015 in Stockton, Illinois. The painting found in her studio is in very good condition with some no harm wear along the edges.
