An exceptionally nice unmarked opal ware glass biscuit/cracker jar, circa 1900, attributed to the Wavecrest. The satin finish opal ware jar has a unique sculptured form composed of rounded and flat panels. It is transfer decorated on one side with pastel blue blossoms and buds accented with soft tan/green leaves and delicate tan wild grasses. The other side has the same type of blossoms and foliage with the addition of tan colored scrolls and cartouches of different geometric patterns. Some of the blossoms have hand applied white enamel stamens. The rim, bail handle and lid is silver-plate with ornate embossed and molded designs.
The jar measures 8 1/2" in height to the top of the lid finial and 6 1/4" across the widest portion. Neither the glass jar or silver-plate is marked. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; the silver-plate has a darkened patina; The lid has been polished in the past and the underside edge shows various dents from perhaps being dropped, this does not show when the lid is on the jar.
