Hand painted china is so beautiful if done in a factory decorating department, professional studio or a small home-studio environment. During the late 1800's and early 1900's china decorating became a favorite hobby of many American ladies who would purchase china blanks from various companies and create their own works of art.
This gorgeous hand painted cabinet plate, circa 1910, was executed in a small home studio by a very talented artist. The plate is decorated with clusters of lush red and purple grapes nestled among variegated green leaves suspended from slender brown twisting stems against a creamy yellow background with hints of pastel peach and green. The round plate has a wide gold encrusted rim.
The plate measures 9" across and is stamped in green "Haviland France", circa 1894-1931. This is one of four plates I have listed in my store by artist "Nellie Foreman Davis who lived in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania. This piece is marked "Painted and decorated by Nellie Forman Davis - Coraopolis PA" on the back. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; near mint.
