Alfred Meakin Ltd was established in 1875 and operated from the Royal Albert, Victoria and Highgate Potteries in Tunstall. Alfred was the brother of James and George Meakin who ran a large pottery company in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent. Alfred Meakin died in 1904 and was succeeded by his son Alfred James who died only four years later. Alfred James’s uncle Robert Johnson bought the company for his son Stuart Johnson and it stayed in the Johnson family’s hands until 1976 when it became Myott-Meakin before becoming part of the Churchill Group.

This lovely flow blue serving platter, circa 1900, is the "Richmond" pattern. It consists of a wide border of gorgeous flow blue flowers and foliage against the white blank. The blank has embossed scrolls along the gently scalloped edge. Marked in blue "Richmond", a Crown, "Alfred Meakin Ltd - England - Royal Semi-Porcelain", mark was first used in 1891, and impressed "10". The platter measures 16" in length and 11 3/4" in width. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; near mint. Beautiful.
